managing and increasing the worldwide visibility of
bluegrass legend Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.
Starting out in 1946 with his
older brother Carter, Ralph Stanley imparted the high,
forlorn mountain sound to the Stanley Brothers’
repertoire. After Carter’s death in 1966, Stanley
carried on both the name and tradition, enlisting into

As a consequence of recording more

shows around the world, Stanley was already an icon when
the Coen Brothers and T-Bone Burnett spotlighted him in
the O Brother, Where Art Thou? movie and
soundtrack album—an album that has now sold more than
seven million copies. His crucial part in the album
earned him Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Album
of the Year Grammys. He subsequently shared a Best
Bluegrass Album Grammy with the Clinch Mountain Boys and
Jim Lauderdale. Stanley was inducted into the Grand Ole
Opry in 2000, the first new member of the 21st Century.
