CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSIC'S SAVIOUR MAY VERY WELL BE NATHAN STANLEY
LeMars, Iowa....."Anyone
connected to, or familiar with, 'country' music has probably
heard the name Stanley. Probably lots of folks have been exposed
to the Stanley name, especially the Stanley Brothers,
preservationists of mountain music, or as they liked to call it,
'old timey country.' The brothers are being inducted into
America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame this year. Ralph
Stanley, the surviving Stanley Brother, was a huge hit in the
movie "O Brother Where Art Thou." His brother Carter, the smooth
vocalist and songwriter for the duo, passed away in 1966 from
cirrhosis of the liver. He was only 41 years old. Ralph has
carried on the musical tradition of the Stanley Brothers, mostly
with his band the Clinch Mountain Boys. This 'tradition' is
vitally important to fans of country music, when it was actually
'country.' Today, most country music leans heavily on
rock-and-roll, and even rap, in an attempt to attract a young
audience. But in the doing, perhaps major labels have tossed the
baby out with the bath water, when it comes to actually
projecting a true 'country' image in the music they produce."
Bob Everhart, the President of the National Traditional Country
Music Association, can be very outspoken about his stand on
country music. "I get calls, letters, and e-mails from fans of
an earlier style country music every day. The come from around
the world, and they are especially concerned about the
'direction' of country music here in America. Where I live, it's
still the Great Plains or perhaps the prairie lands of America.
The audience for an older form of country music is still quite
large here, and most of them don't particularly like to see
traditional country music so disdainfully discarded, as it
apparently has been in Nashville. I also serve on the Board of
Directors of the Rural Roots Music Commission, and these people
are also dismayed at the 'style' of country music that is
developing. They simply tune it out. But not for long, I think.
There's a young guy coming out of Nashville with two very
important missions on his mind. He's a Christian, and not afraid
to give praise to his Lord. And, he's an authentic 'real-deal'
country music artist. A 'classic' country music artist. His name
is Nathan Stanley."
"Nathan Stanley is the grandson of Ralph Stanley, of the famous
brothers that go into the Hall of Fame this year. Nathan was
born to be an entertainer, and as one listens to his newest CD,
we also recognize that Nathan may very well be the answer to the
huge need in America, to bring country music back to the
country. He was cast into the spotlight when he was only two
years old, under the diligent training of his grandfather Ralph.
Nathan has already released a number of CD's all of them harking
to real country, real bluegrass, and/or real gospel. His newest
one, released January 4th of this year, is called "My Kind Of
Country." Remember this prodigy is only nineteen years old, and
he has already performed on every well known stage in America.
He's even taken his music to U.S. Presidents and to the Queen of
England. So, you're wondering why haven't I heard this guy? You
probably have, but you might not have known it. He performs with
his grandfather regularly, but he is also moving forward on his
own as a classic country artist. His latest CD "My Kind Of
Country" is the works of a master. Nathan knew what he was doing
when he asked some of his friends to help out on the project. Of
course his grandfather is on it, but you can also hear Vince
Gill, Patty Loveless, Marty Stuart, John Anderson, Gene Watson,
Rhonda Vincent, Little Jimmy Dickens, Ricky Skaggs, Jeff &
Sherri Easter, and many more. It's a long list. Even Nashville
critics are now proclaiming Nathan Stanley as a breath of fresh
air to the music industry in Nashville. If you haven't heard
Nathan Stanley, you will."
Everhart goes on to say, "Because of the high quality and
excellence of Nathan Stanley's CD, he has been selected by the
Rural Roots Music Commission to receive their prestigious "Best
Classic Country CD of the Year," award. In existence since 1980,
this group of professional 'country music' artists and fans,
spend many hours reviewing CD's. They don't just wait for
someone to send them a CD either, they go out and buy CD's and
then review them. In the final analysis, their combined
expertise and opinion usually finds the 'jewels' of newly
released product. Nathan will receive his award on August 29th,
at the 36th Annual National Old-Time Country & Bluegrass
Festival" in LeMars, Iowa. The festival has been in existence
since 1976, and may be the last hold-out for finding and
presenting classic country and bluegrass music, or as the
Stanley Brothers would describe it, 'old-timey country." The
festival lasts seven days, with over 600 performers on ten
stages presenting old-timey acoustic country, bluegrass, folk,
mountain, even Americana music, from 9am to midnight every day.
It starts on Aug. 29 and goes through Sept. 4. Other celebrities
expected to be present this year include Jim Ed Brown, Little
Roy Lewis, Jeannie Seely, Helen Cornelius, Bonnie Guitar, Eddie
Pennington, Terry Smith, and a host of other very deserving
individuals."
"I find it interesting to see how Nashville itself sees Nathan
Stanley," Everhart added. "Music News Nashville, said Nathan
Stanley has held his own walking amongst the giants on 'My Kind
Of Country,' not an easy task for a mere mortal, but it's a walk
in the park for Stanley." I couldn't have said it better.

NATHAN
STANLEY: SUMMER BLAZES HOT WITH #1 CHARTING, MAJOR NEW VIDEO,
LIVE PERFORMANCES
AUGUST PERFORMANCE AT 'DUKES OF HAZZARD REUNION' PROMISES TO BE
MUSICAL HIGHTLIGHT
Nashville, Tennessee –July 19, 2011 – Summer 2011 has been all
about record breaking heat across America—a memorable time for
one of the country/bluegrass industry’s hottest young artists –Nathan
Stanley--to
be doing a little ‘record breaking’ of his own.
Stanley’s latest radio single, Folsom
Prison Blues,
has just topped at the number #1 spot on the
Power Source Country Charts Top 75—bringing
the original 1955 Sun release of the Johnny Cash penned hit to
re-connect with a new generation of listeners. The fact that
the delivery system to bring a classic country song to a
re-visit at the top of the charts happens to be an artists who
is the musical heir to the Stanley family legend is a sweet
victory to 18 year old Nathan Stanley. His love of the
“traditional” is exceeded only by his appreciation of his legacy
as the grandson of industy pioneer,
Dr. Ralph Stanley.
Nathan noted on the #1 of Folsom
Prison Blues:
“A lot of young
people don’t even know these older artists—normally they don’t
get exposed to the giants because that’s not what Nashville is
pushing right now. It's not considered the cool thing. By
hearing me—someone my age doing this kind of music—I think it
will be discovered by a new generation of listeners. Country
music is great! It started with pioneers like Jimmie Rogers and
the Carter Family—then Bill Monroe and The Stanley Brothers. All
down the line I’m in love with the history and the older
generation artists who founded everything we have today and I
want to share that love of their music with other people. I
want other folks to hear my music and want to learn more about
the great tradition of artists who came before me.”
Last week marked the release of Nathan’s performance/concept
video of yet another great country classic—Long
Black Veil.
Nathan’s 2011 update of the 1959 classic hit for Lefty Frizzell
written by legendary country tunesmiths Danny Dill and Marijohn
Wilkin is more compelling proof of the young artist’s belief
that “hits are ageless.”
Filmed in historic Watertown, Tennessee with additional footage
shot in nearby Lebanon, the mournful tale of Long Black Veil,
from prison to
grave, captures a score of famous faces—including Dr. Ralph &
Jimmi Stanley, Ralph Stanley II, The Clinch Mountain Boys,
Laura Dodd, and a cameo appearance by Gene Higgins, President of
the Christian Country Music Association. The video is being
promoted by Aristo Media in Nashville in conjunction with HMG
Music.
In
the midst of a new generation of fans embracing his music,
Nathan Stanley is a young man on the go. In addition to his own
concert dates, Nathan is a centerpiece of the energetic tour
schedule Dr. Ralph maintains into his eighth decade of making
music. Still based in Virginia, Nathan makes frequent business
trips to Nashville where he oversees the operation of his own
newly formed label,
Stanley Generation Records.
In addition to his own music the label hosts a growing stable of
artists including Ralph Stanley II and emerging new
artist, Laura Dodd.
High on the list of things “to do” this summer is Nathan’s
August 13-14th performance at the much anticipated
Dukes Of Hazzard Homecoming being held ‘Back
In The Blue Ridge’ of Sperryville, Virginia. Ben Jones
–‘Cooter’ on the original TV series and founder of Cooter’s
Place is hosting the original cast and an expected overflow
crowed of fans for the two day event which Nathan will
decidedly help keep ‘traditional’ on the music side. Nathan
can count ‘Cooter’ among his fans in Hazzard County, Ben Jones
notes on the website for the Dukes of Hazzard Homecoming: "It is
really gratifying for me to hear a young performer who has a
respect for the great artists of ‘real country.’ Nathan is the
real deal. He has paid his dues, learned his craft and found
his niche.”
Nathan Stanley
music is distributed by Sony Red and promoted by HMG Nashville.
He is booked by Acts Nashville.
Nathan
Stanley Opens Stanley Generation Records
Signs ICM New Artist Winner, Laura Dodd, as First Act
Nashville, TN (April 14, 2011) -
Performer and record producer Nathan Stanley announces the
opening of Stanley Generation Records and the signing of
that label’s first act, Laura Dodd, winner of the 2010
Inspirational Country Music new artist of the year award.
Stanley brings
a lifetime of music business experience to his new
enterprise. He was virtually a toddler when he began
performing on stage with his grandfather Ralph Stanley’s
band, the Grammy-winning Clinch Mountain Boys. Beginning as
a spoons player, he graduated into roles as lead vocalist,
mandolinist and rhythm guitarist with the band. Off stage,
he participated in every essential business chore from
selling merchandise to recording and producing. As a Clinch
Mountain Boy, he has performed in all 50 states and Canada
on stages ranging from bluegrass festival shelters to the
Grand Ole Opry to Carnegie Hall.
Last year, at
the age of 18, he released his fourth album, My Kind Of
Country, a project he also co-produced. This collection of
traditional country songs was his fourth solo album and
featured guests appearances by such luminaries as Vince
Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Gene Watson, Del McCoury, John Anderson,
Rhonda Vincent and Patty Loveless. He is currently
producing a tribute album to his legendary grandfather. It
too will be on his new label.
“It’s no
exaggeration to say that music has been my life,” says
Stanley. “I love performing and recording, but I’m also
fascinated with music as a business, as a way of developing
and supporting artists. I want Stanley Generation Records
to give artists the support and freedom to do what they do
best—and that is to transform people’s lives with their
music. That’s why I’m so happy to see Laura Dodd as our
flagship artist. She’s an amazing entertainer.”
Dodd,
a native of Gadsden, Alabama, comes to Stanley Generation
Records with a rich history of performing. Both a formally
trained and a church-seasoned vocalist, Dodd has done shows
with George Jones, Rascal Flatts, Patty Loveless, Restless
Heart, Josh Turner, Bruce Hornsby and Ben Vereen, among
others. She also performed at the White House on behalf of
the Miracle League World Series, at an event hosted by
President and Mrs. George W. Bush.
“I’ve watched Nathan develop as a musical mentor,” says
Dodd, “and he’s seen me grow as a singer and songwriter,”
Dodd says. “I’m thrilled to help him inaugurate Stanley
Generation Records and honored to be associated with such a
legendary musical name.”
Stanley Generation Records expects to release Dodd’s first
single from her forthcoming album in June. In addition to
recording for Stanley, she will also tour with him on
selected dates as well as perform separately with her own
band.
Stanley
Generation Records is winding up negotiations for the
label’s product to be distributed nationally by Sony/RED and
has retained record industry veteran Larry Pareigis (Nine
North Records) to oversee radio promotion.
